Voices will join KOMU 8 and Zimmer radio stations KCMQ, The Eagle, KTGR-ESPN, and KTXY-107 as media sponsors for “Be a Superhero for Columbia Public Schools,” scheduled for Saturday, October 30, 11-3. As part of the event, organizers will attempt to break the Guinness world record for “most people in one place dressed in a superhero costume.”
“Our goal is to create the largest fundraiser, in terms of people participating, that Columbia has ever seen,” event coordinator Sean Spence said. “Basically, we are going to create a massive costume party with games, contests, music, and food, and we’re going to raise a bunch of money for the Columbia Public Schools Foundation.”
The current record is 1245, set earlier this year in Melbourne, Australia, as part of DC Comics 75th Anniversary.
“Right now, we are in the early planning stages,” Spence said. “Over the coming months, we’ll unveil the event and hopefully get the whole community excited about a record-breaking, family friendly event that supports our schools.”
The event will be free to attendees. Money will be raised through sponsorships, with no more than 10-20% going toward event expenses.
