What do you think are the biggest challenges for professional women today? I believe the biggest challenge is taking time for self-care. Schedules get very busy and calendars can easily become double-booked. It’s so important to find time on a daily basis to simply stop and be. Even ten minutes of sitting quietly with the eyes closed and focusing on the breath is healthful. I suggest to my clients and students to schedule “relaxation and rejuvenation appointments” with themselves at the beginning of each month before their calendar fills up. The better they take care of themselves, the more they have to share with their family, friends, colleagues and clients.

What is something you wish you could change about yourself? I wish I could be in three or four places at the same time. I have so many projects and activities that I truly LOVE and want to do them all well.

Name one thing not many people know about you. I was very shy as a child.

What is the best business advice you’ve ever received? Stay connected to the community you live in, and believe in what you’re doing with all your heart. This allows you to meet others from a perspective of sharing – how can I integrate their gifts into my life, and how can I empower their lives with mine?

How would you describe your leadership style? I walk my talk. I don’t expect others to do things I don’t practice myself.

Has your career path held surprises along the way? Yes, some amazing ones! Every time one door opens, it leads not just to the next level of training or the next opportunity to expand professionally, but most importantly, walking through that doorway always connects me with incredible people. What a lovely experience to do the work I love to do and end up doing it with such fabulous people.

What do you do to relax? I practice Spring Forest Qigong, which is an easy, gentle way to release stress and invite wellness into the body. I also mediate, take walks and bicycle.

What is one personal goal you haven’t yet achieved? I haven’t downsized into a smaller home.

What is your workplace pet peeve? My wellness practice is in my home, and I’m delighted with it. When I worked outside the home, negative talk in the workplace was disturbing. I found it hurtful and a waste of time.

Who do you consider a career mentor and why?My Spring Forest Qigong master, Chunyi Lin, and his staff at the SFQ Center in Minneapolis are my mentors. SFQ has been developed on a foundation of love, kindness, and forgiveness, and I try to share those qualities with each of my clients and students.

What is your dream job? The one I have right now. My passion is sharing wellness with others, and empowering them to integrate simple practices into their lives so they can enjoy mind, body, and spirit balance.

What do you hope to be doing in 10 years – personally and professionally? Personally, I will be living in a smaller home where I feel totally connected to nature. I love sunrises and sunsets, and watching the stars and moon. Professionally, I will be teaching Spring Forest Qigong internationally.

I have known Ruth Ann for over five years and can attest to her genuine nature. She truly embodies “walking the talk” as a concept and reinforces visualization as a path to your next level. Bravo! Ruth Ann!
