Biggest challenge for professional women today: Balancing work and family life. It’s a time management issue, certainly, but more than that, for me, I get so much satisfaction from my work that when I get into my zone I have a tendency to be a bit of a workaholic and need to remember to disconnect from my work so that I can be completely present for my family.
Best business advice I’ve ever received: Focus on the needs of your customers and your bottom line will automatically improve.
Leadership style: I have always been happiest in a coaching relationship, whichever end of the relationship I’m on. I don’t care to be micro-managed and I don’t enjoy micro-managing others. I believe in hiring well and letting that person do their job. I encourage and appreciate all communication. I trust that if employees have needs they will let me know that.
Career path surprises: My career path has definitely and thankfully held surprises! I enjoy and embrace change. I think it is necessary for all growth, personal and professional. I am in a period of transition now that is very exciting to me. We’ll see what the next phase looks like!!
To relax there is nothing like my jetted tub. Hopefully that’s not too much information, but it is the truth!
Workplace pet peeve: Please don’t ask me to manage minutiae.
Career mentor: He doesn’t know it, but Brant Bukowsky inspires me just from knowing him and watching him from a distance. He is an amazing business person with a lot of smarts and heart. He is willing to embrace change and learn about anything he doesn’t know about that he is interested in.
Dream job: Sometimes I’ve thought that it would be a lot of fun to work in television or movie production. But, I totally enjoy my professional life.
In 10 years, I plan to be in a position to retire, but won’t because I love to work.
