What do you think are the biggest challenges for professional women today? I think professional women are the greatest. They are busy people that know how to get things done and keep things moving. Professional women love a challenge and sometimes forget to stop and take care of themselves.
What is something you wish you could change about your self? I’d like a better golf swing!
Name one thing not many people know about you. That I graduated from high school early to attend Stephens College. I had to maintain a B average to get my high school diploma while in college that first semester and if I didn’t I would not get my high school diploma. Rules were different in 1973.
What is the best business advice you’ve ever received? Always treat everyone with respect.
How would you describe your leadership style? I love to mentor and lead others to develop their skills. It is like watching a flower bloom in low motion. Or when you catch a glimpse of the brightest star in the sky, you know it loves that it is the brightest or the best among millions.
Has your career path held surprises along the way? Always! I was a fashion and design major. I was headed for New York and the runway. I have been in the insurance business for 36 years. I began coding files, moved to adjusting claims, then to teaching adjusters to write estimates on vehicles and houses, then working in marketing. Now I help families protect their assets.
What do you do to relax? I love to socialize with people and to play golf.
What is one personal goal you haven’t yet achieved? To be the largest Shelter agency in Columbia.
What is your workplace pet peeve? If you don’t have anything to do, find something productive.
Who do you consider a career mentor and why? I believe I can learn something from everyone. I have had many mentors in my life and I wish I could name them all. Mary Lou Mills of Shelter Insurance was my first real mentor and inspiration, but there are many others.
What is your dream job? I love what I do, but if I were to have a dream job, you would be wearing my labels on your clothing right now.
What do you hope to be doing in 10 years – personally and professionally? In ten years I hope to have the largest Shelter Agency in Columbia,
professionally speaking. Personally, I hope to be a good friend and to continue to build great relationships.
