Nature of services offered: My Green Cities is a sustainable lifestyle development company that is creating a database of socially aware businesses. Owner Arianna Parsons said she has designed customizable mobile phone applications that can help consumers find sustainable and socially aware businesses. “Need a great dry cleaner who doesn’t use PERC? A coffee shop that serves fair trade coffee or a law firm that helps working moms balance their busy schedules with flex time?” the website asks. “From simply avoiding big box stores to finding businesses near bike paths that take alternative currency — you will have the information and the tools you need to spend your hard earned money according to YOUR values and interests!”
Opened: April 22 (Earth Day)
Costs: The first two products, the My Green Cities and Monkey & Maggie iPhone apps, will cost $2.99. A subscription to a searchable online database that combines elements of the two apps will cost $4.99. The My Green Cities app should be available by late July, and the Monkey & Maggie app should be available soon thereafter. Registration for businesses who want to be included in the database is free.
