Although corporate movie rental stores have closed under pressure from mail, kiosk and streaming alternatives, 9th Street Video has stayed alive thanks to its knowledgeable staff, diverse selection and community connections.
Ten years ago, renting a movie in Columbia came down to a choice between a local video store with a diverse selection and a national chain with heaps of new releases.
Now, corporate-owned video-rental stores are slowly giving way to services such as Redbox and Netflix, and 9th Street Video is the only local video store still standing in Columbia.
