Cool place to go — CoMoRoLo (Columbia, MO Micro Loans)

CoMoRoLo uses the concept of crowd sourcing to provide the necessary capital for projects, causes and ideas that will strengthen Columbia.

Submitted by Arianna Parsons, MyGreenCities.com

The first CoMoRoLo will take place on Thursday, August 19, 2010 from 6-8PM at Mojos (1013 Park Avenue, Columbia).

Any member of the community is invited to register to speak at the monthly CoMoRoLo meetings.  There, individuals (the audience) will pay five dollars towards the community fund.  Up to ten registered speakers will discuss their ideas, the cost, and likelihood of paying back the loan.  The audience will vote for the idea they feel is the best community “investment” and that project will be given the evening’s collected community fund.   If a loan is paid back, in part or in full, that amount will be added back to the community fund, thus enabling CoMoRoLo to fund more projects.  Funded projects are encouraged to follow up with the CoMoRoLo crowd and discuss how the funds were utilized.

The intention of CoMoRoLo is to encourage creative expression and community-focused projects by easing financial constraints and to provide a fun and interactive forum to learn about the undertakings of our neighbors and friends.  Individuals that do not need financial backing, but wish to spread the word about their current, relevant projects, are invited to speak and musicians or performers are invited to participate to entertain the crowd.

CoMoRoLo is the newest project of My Green Cities, LLC (MGC), a woman-owned company dedicated to creating tools that strengthen communities and promoting socially responsible practices.
